Closed Crawl Space
THE KEY TO A BETTER FOUNDATION IS IN THE CRAWL SPACE.
In the open parts of your yard, water vapor readily escapes to the atmosphere. But under a crawl space, this water vapor can collect and begin to condense on the foundation walls, insulation, heating/air-conditioning duct work and the subfloor structure.
For many decades, building codes have prescribed ventilation with outside air as the primary method of moisture control in crawl spaces. In the humid Southeast, however, ventilation with outside air can make moisture problems worse.
Recent research indicates that a new type of crawl space system, with no vents to the outside, can provide improved moisture control when properly installed. A humidity problem in your crawl space fosters wood rot, wood destroying fungus and is conducive to termite infestations.
Closing the crawl space is a way to eliminate moisture problems by permanently closing the vents and letting a heavy-duty vapor barrier prevent moisture from damaging your property. Our team of qualified technicians installs a vapor barrier that adheres to the foundation wall.
We also install a dehumidifier and a sump pump to maintain a proper level of moisture in the crawl space. Insulating the foundation walls may also be considered to reduce heating or cooling losses that occur through the foundation wall.
